As per the notification issued by the government on 1st June 2020, MSMEs will now be known as Udyam and the registration process for an organization as an Udyam will be called Udyam Enrollment Registration. Any person who intends to establish a micro. Small or medium businesses will have to file for Udyam registration in the online Udyam Registration Portals. The business will subsequently be issued an Udyam Registration Number and an e-certificate namely, ‘Udyam Registration Certificate.

New Definition of MSMEs Under Udyam


  • Micro enterprise – Investment in plant and machinery or equipment does not exceed ten crore rupees and turnover does not exceed five crore rupees

  • Small Enterprise- Investment in plant and machinery or equipment does not exceed ten crore rupees and turnover does not exceed fifty crore rupees

  • Medium Enterprise - Investment in plant and machinery or equipment does not exceed fifty crore rupees and turnover does not exceed two hundred and fifty crore rupees.

  • Registration for existing companies- Last Date


    All existing companies registered under EM Part-II or UAM will be required to register again on Udyam Registration Portals on or after 1st June 2020. All enterprises registered before 30th June 2020, will be re-classified in accordance with this notification. Enterprises registered prior to 30th June 2020, shall continue to be valid only till 31st March 2021.

  • Documents Required for Udyam Registration

  • Personal Aadhaar number is required for Udyam Registration.
  • The Aadhaar number shall be of the possessor in the case of a proprietorship firm, of the managing partner in the case of a partnership firm and of a Karta on condition of a Hindu Undivided Family (HUF).
  • In the case of a Private Limited Company or a Limited Liability Partnership or a Cooperative Society or a Society or a Trust, the organization or its authorized signatory shall provide its GSTIN and PAN alongside its Aadhaar number.
  • In case of an enterprise or MSME’s which is already registered as an Udyam with PAN, any deficiency of data for previous years when it did not have PAN shall be filled up on a self-declaration basis.
